OK, I’m convinced Tony Karon is a typical ‘progressive’: a despicable liar with a poisonous anti-Bush agenda and complete disregard for true American interests in the world.
What makes me even more puzzled why some US conservatives are so blindlly anti-Putin. What do you think would happen if Putin is destroyed? Just look at the Russian elections statistics. Before Putin consolidated power, which party controlled Russian Parliament? Communists and by a big margin! The biggest loser of Putin’s rise to power were Russian Communists. You pine about lost freedoms Russia had in the 1990-s but in reality all through those years the largest party in Russian Parliament was Communists and Communist candidate came very close to defeating Yeltsin in 1996 for Presidency. So instead of freedom what we had in 1990-s Russia was a messed-up country tottering to succumb to Communism all over again! Obviously nobody wants those times to return, especially not the US conservatives, if they think clearly.
Putin is necessary as a transitional figure. The trick is to nudge Russia ever further into Democracy.
