brooklyn dave,

Not to mention his repression of free masonry…However, I was not aware, and have never heard about any untoward action against Galicians….. could have been part of Franco’s natural “galleguismo.”

Franco wanted to hold the center together. He wanted a unified Spanish state run from Madrid. Being a Gallegan, he was well aware of the natural centrifugal forces inherent in some of the outerlying spanish provinces. He felt that those forces, if not confronted, would destroy the Spain that he ardently loved.

I think el caudillo looked on autonomy as he looked on communism, free masonry, and islam, as a dagger pointed at the heart of Espana.
