“Racism is the #1 blot on America’s escutcheon.”
Yeah, and slavery was abolished here by a gang of honkies. Perpetual guilt for a state of mind that has been all but extinguished for decades is inappropriate, and adds nothing to Obama’s qualifications for office.
A wish to atone for something one’s grandfather might have thought – notice, please, that not even all grandfathers qualified as racists – may bring tears, but so do soap operas and fictional tragedies. Such tears would be as bad a reason for voting for an individual as a desire to smash capitalism and live in peace and love by any means necessary.
Why would Obama be a better executive than someone whose stage presence were less glib, but had actually made some executive decisions and been accountable for the results? I realize that this question applies to practically all the Democratic candidates, but it’s more pertinent than pretending that racism still rules in the US.
