Groping Hillary Without Consequences: The Case of Jon Favreau
Anna — great post and great parsing of the double standards here.
The silence of groups like NOW and WMC is disappointing, if unsurprising.
The commenters above who are making comments about “cardboard” miss the point. Of course, nobody was physically harmed here, and the target is not claiming emotional or economic harm. But those are the standards for a formal claim to be made in court, not for action to be taken. And in fact, if this was part of a pattern for Favreau, as is likely, female co-workers would have a cause of action for sexual harrassment, as anyone familiar with the requirements for such a claim will know.
But we’re not talking litigation here, we’re talking what’s appropriate. This sends a message to all the women who saw the picture about what representatives of the administration think about women. And anyone who thinks that’s only two dimensional has very limited gray matter.
