To what extent does “persistence” play a role in these forecasts?
I’ve followed the weather for the past decade…the solar weather. Sunspot cycle 24 was predicted to be another incredibly active one, like cycle 23…and, in significant part, because cycle 23 was. When cycle 24 turned out to be much less, the predictions, with some evidence of embarassment, from public view (I haven’t seen a repeat of the warnings for cycle 25, either).
Did someone say, “Well, last year was a rip-snorter, so this one’s got to be, too”.
