Many hundreds of Pakistani soldiers have died in the last few months in FATA/NWFP, combating the Afghan Taleban and other groups of terrorists.

Yes, many hundreds of Pakistani soldiers have deied. The question is: did they die despoite the best efforts of their generals and the ISI or were they were expendable soldiers probably from the “inferior” ethnias whose failure was aimed at proving tha Pakistan could do no more? I don’t have the answer. For that you need knowledge about the units involved and have after action reports (eg if it loooks like the rebels ever knew in advance about their moves).

I have been told, but I cannot guarantee my confident is truthful, that the good Pakistani troops are deployed against India and have not moved, that the people who died in the NWFP were from an auxiliary corps (don’t remind the name) and not part of the real army. That those people were poorly armed and trained. That their military value was about zeo. I reiterate that I cannot guarantee that my informant is truthful, even if he seems to have an encyclopedical knowledge about India and Pakistan. Now my own observation is that, when the Pakistani Army really wants to win (eg in Balochistan) it can eventually be defetated but not massacred like it was in the NWFP.
