A good first step would be to ban radical islamists from residing in the west. The message would go out–no more green cards, tourist, student, work visas–if you are a radical islamist. If you are radical islamist and already here, but not yet a citizen, then deport. Not only will this policy (obviously) provide more security in the west, but I believe it will help moderate muslims both in the host country and overseas (like in Pakistan) to gain the upper hand over their radicals.
I define a radical islamist as an individual who wants to establish sharia law in the host country or believes in jihad as a way to settle national disputes.
