The IRA was never as nihilistic as the Islamic thugs. How often, for instance, did the IRA send out suicide bombers? They were also not quite as eager to murder and torture innocent civilians. No, the British strategy was doomed to fail if they perceived the Muslim crazies as fairly similar to the far more moderate Irish terrorists.
