It’s been interesting watching Obama assemble his cabinet team over the past
couple of weeks. At first, there were a lot of kooky names floated around
by the far left, but so far, most of the people that have actually been
nominated have been retreads from the Bill Clinton administration; as I told
a friend, there are more retreads than a used tire store, and they’re no
more trustworthy than a used tire.
One blog post I read earlier today noted that Obama has never DONE anything, so unlike Clinton or Bush 43, he didn’t have his own mafia to bring with him from his home state. Who was he going to bring, Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright? Most of the remaining Carterites are doddering old men in their 80s, and that administration is still has the stench of failure attached to them. Who else was he going to pick except for a bunch of Clinton retreads and minor leaguers if he was going to find people with Washington experience? He needs experienced people in the executive branch if he wants to set the agenda, rather than having Pelosi and Reid poaching on his territory.
Anyway, it’s been amusing to read the statements of “concern” on left-wing
blogs about all of these centrists that Obama is naming. The useful idiots
aren’t feeling so useful any more. They may find that he has pulled a
bait-and-switch on them. We won’t really know until he takes office. But a
third Clinton administration sounds better than a first Obamarx
administration. I’m sure that Obama will do a lot of things that I disagree
with, but it may not be quite as disastrous as I initially feared.
