The honeymoon was over before it began. Neither the hard left nor the hard right will ever be satisfied. An open discussion and exchange of ideas is anathema to radicals, as their minds are made up and they do not want to be confused by facts. That is why they have no influence in anything but elections. Marching and flailing about can win an election, but it takes some thought and consensus to govern.
