Sudan’s Deadly New Crisis

If all the different rebel groups unite and agree on objectives, they can apply pressure on Khartoum to come up with a truly comprehensive agreement which includes all concerned parties.

There’s one problem though.

No break away from Khartoum will occur peacefully. More importantly, al-Bashir feels a lot of distrust towards the United States now. After all, his government signed the CPA with the SPLM, yet the American sanctions remained in place and Sudan stayed in the list of terrorism sponsoring countries.

Keep in mind that Sudan at the moment is cooperating heavily with the CIA in terrorism related matters.

Al-Bashir feels betrayed and he’s very much determined to stay in power. What’s needed before anything else is keeping the fragile peace from collapsing.
