What Obama did — turning off Address Verification Service
(not Automatic Verification Service) is socially irresponsible in the extreme. As I found out, turning it off is a great help to credit card and identity thieves. They use a site like Obama’s to check out stolen credit card numbers. If the charge goes thru, the number is good — they don’t need to know the name or the address. They then create a credit card with that number and go out and use it fast before the number is cancelled — this works because with “card present” transactions there is no AVS.
So you can bet that besides campaign finance fraud there was also a tremendous amount of straight credit card and identity fraud going on as well. Thank you Obama.
