Point taken about partisanship being as toxic as it is and I recognize your independent view is caught in the middle of some no-mans land. Expecting someone to do their job is as natural as the disappointment that tends to follow more frequently than not. However I suspect you also agree that many people who have placed an incredible amount of trust and faith in one solitary man are in for a rude awakening as well.
We can argue till we’re all blue in the face about our differences, but it remains to be seen what becomes of this election ’08. We all got to do our best for our families, ourselves and for the greater good (if so inclined) no matter whose in charge. I must say though, the cognitive dissonance of the left, the degree of their hatred and intolerance over the last 8yrs has been quite an eye opener.
Do I wish future presidents to suffer the same public outrage and collective derangement day in day out? No way, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, not Joe the Plumber, not Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton. But you see it’s not up to me to decide for others how they conduct themselves, the way they vent and what not. Civility would be much appreciated, but as things are – I least expect it.
The way I see it Obama rallied much of the anger on the far left, and he allied himself to special interest groups, who at the end of the day will either be his loudest supporters or detractors. Conservatives in my opinion don’t possess the same level of outrage liberals have openly displayed the last few years. Their resources and time will be tied greatly to rebuilding and regrouping for their cause to show anything resembling the level of derangement indicative of liberals of late.
That’s not to say there aren’t radical elements on the right, I just don’t see them hijacking the GOP platform anywhere near what radical leftwing nutjobs have achieved on the left; and imo trying to please all these groups will be one of Obama’s most daunting and exhausting tasks. As history proves loyal support can promptly turn into faction and dissension overnight.
