Will the Kaczynskis Lose Power in Poland?

The Kascynski brothers are by no means perfect. But they are correct to root out the rampant corruption that infests most former Communist countries, due to the hold-over of old party apparatchniks and their venal habits.

I can’t understand why we ought to sympathize with government officials who commit suicide after being exposed for corruption. (Other than one’s general feeling of compassion toward any poor soul driven to take his or her life.) Is the author here suggesting that perhaps the Polish government should dial back its anti-corruption campaign, because it ruins the lives of crooked officials who are caught?

Economic experts have pinpointed governmental corruption as the biggest stumbling block in the way of nations struggling to pull out of endemic poverty. I wish there were more Kaczynskis in charge across the world, not fewer, never mind the idiosyncracies. (Besides, I don’t mind them poking fingers in the eyes of the arrogant EU now and then, either.)
