Americans may be happy with social security and medicare, but the programs are structured almost like huge ponzi schemes. They drain more and more money from the budget and they’re heading for a collapse soon if nothing is done to correct the problem.
The fact is also that I doubt most Americans want our government or our economy to look more like that of France. You can deny that it’s socialism if you wish, but you can’t deny that France has had an employment rate of around 10% for years and years, and there is little room for entrepreneurship and innovation in that heavily structured and regulated economy.
