RE: Conspiracy Theory

Back in the mid-90s, I sat with a group of friends and associates in some bistro after the monthly Denver Mensa general meeting.

It seems that MacNamara’s book confessing his duplicity in Viet Nam had recently been published. And we were discussing the matter.

Suddenly, one of the members of the party at OUR table broke into tears.

We were perplexed and asked him why the sorrow.

He confessed…..

….that when the alleged Gulf of Tonkin Incident occurred, he’d been a staff officer in CINCPAC. And that he and everyone else in the headquarters knew that the allegations being foisted off on Congress by President Lyndon Baines Johnson and SecDef MacNamara were gross exaggerations. And that, years and 58,000 American dead, he was ashamed that he had kept his mouth shut about the alleged ‘incident’.

The looks of care and concern about the table changed to looks of shock, horror and, in some cases, something much worse.

So….

….you say there is no such thing as ‘conspiracy’?
