Some years ago, a friend and I were talking, when my brother stumbles in the room with blood pouring down his face. It seems his domestic partner, a woman, three inches shorter and 40lbs lighter, had just knocked him out and drove away in his truck. ( The truck was retrieved later with the windows broken out and four flat tires…I digress.) They DID have loud verbal exchanges, at times, but the blow that put him out was delivered without warning.
According to the laws you’re discussing, he would have been taken to jail, lost his truck altogether, and been watched/harrassed and achieved a reputation as a woman abuser. ( Even after this, he could never bring himself to hit a woman.)
