I doubt Kim Zigfield is paid by Berezovsky. Judging by who benefits from her attacks, it’s more likely she is paid by Mr.Putin himself.
Her attacks do nothing but show Russians that westerners don’t respect them. She does her best to portray Russia as the US enemy, and vice versa. Which only gives Putin more popularity at home, and a free hand to his criminal regime.
Of course, I don’t believe that Ms.Zigfield is paid by the KGB, but I do think she is trying to make a name for herself as a journalist, by spewing venom, twisting facts, and telling lies – all at the expense of Russian-American relations, and the peoples of both countries, except perhaps egomaniac charlatans like Garry Kasparov and Marina Litvinovich. One example of Ms.Zigfield’s spin is her classifying of Andrei Kozlov as Putin’s opponent, without presenting any evidence.
The most absurd thing about Ms.Zigfield’s writings is her recommendations: to confront the depressing reality that the threat posed by the USSR is not ended
How are we supposed to confront it, exactly? Send Dick Cheney to Vilnus to say some angry words? Isolate Russia economically? There wasn’t a single time when these “confrontations” didn’t backfire. The biggest threat from Russia is not a war; it’s anarchy, and the threat of nukes acquired by people far more dangerous than Putin’s gang. The current regime in Kremlin is indeed criminal, but getting all self-righteous about it and focusing our anger on Russia – instead of, say, our friends the Saudis – is a really stupid thing to do. It only makes things worse for us, and for the ordinary Russians.
