I think the reasons are less nefarious than you imply. Obama is boring. Messianism is boring. Take a look at people who make fun of Jesus–the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the Life of Brian, which is funny only when not making fun of Jesus. Everyone laughs at the crucified singing “always look on the bright side of life,” but it’s really not very funny, is it? I’ve never gotten the joke, and not for religious reasons.
The fact that Obama is boring is also going to be his undoing. When he gets into office and has to start talking fo realz, everyone is going to fall asleep, and then the media will resent him, both for being forced to cover him and for having to rely on him for ratings.
