I remember one time I was giving a presentation of a multi-million dollar software system to an audience that was just plain DEAD. My phone rang (I had forgotten to turn off the ringer). So, I answered it (it was a friend of mine) and I said “hang on, I’m going to put you on speaker.” After I did, I told him I was giving a presentation to about 45 people, and I instructed them all to say, “Hi Rich!” They did, it lightened up the tone, we all took each other a little less seriously, and the audience was much more interactive after that.
I guess this one just isn’t that big of a deal for me.
