“…get about the business of finding a message” the Republican message all along has been fundamental according to my readings – it is pseudo libertarian – limited government ensuring a stable civil environment primarily governed by the states and lower levels of government, and finally by the individuals themselves, see Tenth amendment. The United States is a stable environment for personal freedom, property rights, and the right to pursue (but not necessarily attain) happiness. There’s the message and it sells to mature responsible adults.
We ain’t selling pet rocks here.
