First of all, Bush acted like he as going in “no matter what,” because Saddam had been playing these games for years, and Bush knew that there was no way Saddam was going to comply with the ceasefire from the first Gulf War. Anyone who thought differently was delusional.
I also find it amazing that people find these complex and bizarre scenarios that somehow Saddam either destroyed his WMDs (AFTER there were no more inspectors,) or was fooled into believing he had them when he didn’t. Neither of these are remotely plausible as far as I can tell, yet there’s an obvious, simple, and plausible theory that he just drove them across the border. Have any of these so-called intellectuals ever heard of Occam’s Razor?
We would have had to confront Saddam eventually. The longer we would have waited, the worse it would have been.
