i’m sure al Q & whomever have ways of exploiting either a mccain or an obama presidency, but something tells me they would prefer whoever it is to spend less time trying to kill them and more time trying to talk to them. that seems like a pretty reasonable inference.
unless of course you consider that the “talk to theemmm!” meme is really just a rhetorical weapon in the hands of domestic USA political oppsition; our enemies don’t actually give a goddamn what we say to them.
but it probably bears pointing out that the Pashtun tribal belt straddling the Afghan/FATA Pakistan border consists of 30 million people, who are *thoroughly*…un-Western. maybe we could have done more to prevent al Q from re-grouping, but… I don’t know, don’t you think that gives them something of a home-field advantage?
you might also take into consideration NATO’s failure to deliver many combat troops. just a few thoughts.
