I have been going “John Galt” and preaching it to anyone who will listen for the couple of years. My signature line on my email is “Atlas Shrugged” and today I feel like Atlas. Just as in the book, the harder I work, the more that people want to ake from me; suck up my energy and “wealth”. 18 months ago I closed down a division in my company and laid off 15 people. I did not because the harder I worked to keep them employed, the more restrictions and taxes were placed on me. It no longer became worthy of my energy. I chose to work less, make a bit less and enjoy more. I increased my giving to charity (soup kitchens are my passions) and eliminated all personal debt; and began to take in energy rather than have it taken away. The current and future state of our federal government and its socialistic overtones, will only cause me to further pull back and retreat in the “mountains”. My father did the same thing 20 years ago; when he stopped growing an extremely profitable business. When I asked him why, he said, it is no longer work the effort. For that I gave him a copy of Atlas Shrugged. It solidified his resolve. My interests are in the betterment of mankind and our society; I just do not believe that the government is the best vehicle to make it happen. There will be more of us “Galting” in the near future. Hopefully we can make a difference.
