Well if ” the Sunni, Shia and Kurds all have come to realize and accept that America is the main player in Iraq”, then they might also start to realize that the US people are fed up with ‘Iraqi’ ways of doing things. They want RESULTS and not the usual endless deceptive ‘talk’(aka outright LIES). They want an end to militias, and an end to MASSIVE corruption, and an end to the OLD IRAQ.
Iraqi ‘political culture’ is dysfunctional and sooner or later, rather than leading to a desired result, it will lead to America saying ‘bon voyage and good luck’. Iraq has about 9 months to get its act together.
I don’t think that Iraqis truly ‘get the message’ that is seeping out from America. All that remains is for the American People to conclude that they have indeed made a ‘good faith effort’ to help out. That point will be at the end of the ‘Surge’ next June.
Then it will be —- Well, we gave it and them our best shot, but they didn’t want to go forward. Not one more life for this effort. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
This may not be ‘fair’, but the handwriting is now not only on the wall ; it almost obscures the wall itself.
9 months. That’s it.
Then all those Iraqis who keep saying that the ‘occupation’ is causing all the problems will have a chance to prove their thesis. I wish them luck.
