I have never really cared about politics and I have always thought politicians were all the same, greedy miscreants. While the latter impression hasn’t changed too much, I do see differences now. This is the first time I have ever wanted to be involved in a political campaign or felt like I needed to help others see truth. I probably would never waste any money by donating to any campaign and I have not been directly involved either.
It should not surprise anyone if there is fraud in politics, especially with so much money involved. The likelihood of fraud in politics should be a good reason to take a second look anywhere it may seem to be.
I was biased against all politicians when this all started. So I was able to step back and view politics from the outside. During my collegiate studies of economics and various social systems I began to realize there is a difference. A lot of the stuff politicians and the main-stream media were saying didn’t make any sense. I also noticed that democrats seem to be the ones that bring up the race card rather than discuss legitimate issues that someone has brought up. Democrat biased main-stream media, various politicians even Obama brought it up, maybe as a preemptive measure. Who knows. The politics of fear are alive on both sides. The completely debunked false ad that says McCain would cut Medicare for seniors is just one Obama ad. While there may be hatred among supporters on both sides. It seems to be coming from the left more than the right. I don’t understand the hatred toward someone who has views different than your own.
If you only watch main-stream media you would think republicans in leadership positions aren’t as intelligent as democrats. They seem to go out of their way to report only things that make them look bad. Democrats and republicans that have talked with and/or interviewed McCain, Palin, Bush and Obama all say they are smart, intelligent people. They say Bush is not dumb like a lot of people portray him to be. They say Palin is sharp, quick and very personable. I bet if the media were biased towards republicans most people would like G W Bush. Their perception of the economy and the war would be more positive. Well, until the financial crisis anyway. Congress’ approval ratings would still be deservedly dismal.
So I studied more. I studied governments around the world, state and city governments and history. Well I learned that when taxes are raised the economy slows; when taxes are lowered the economy grows. When the economy grows the government’s tax revenue increases. Second, as long as there are greedy, corrupt and/or lazy people, any centrally planned economy, whether it is socialism, nationalized programs, etc., will never work. It works against human nature, dampens the human spirit and encourages corruption, which makes its failure inevitable. Also, the bigger the government the more corrupt it is. Basically, socialism and redistribution schemes just push everyone down to the “lower class”. We would all be equal at zero or close to zero, except the ruling elite and the “super rich”, empowering them to oppress the “lower class”. Capitalism takes human nature; greed, corruption and the human spirit and puts it to work for the good of everyone.
It is widely known that you never raise taxes when the economy is in crisis. That will cause a recession to last for years, or even go into a depression. Economists also agree that raising taxes caused the great depression to last as long as it did. It also caused the long period of stagflation during the ‘70s. More and more economists from a wide political spectrum are starting to realize that Obama’s plan would raise taxes on the very people that will get this economy going. The very people Obama thinks he is helping will make less and lose jobs. They will be worse off. The unemployment rate will skyrocket. There is no incentive for the economy to grow, for jobs to be created. There are examples everywhere and in history that prove these issues. You just have to study and don’t blindly go along with the people your bias brings you to. Check everything. Just because you don’t like the guy you voted for last time, is not a good reason to vote for someone who would be even worse. Alas, though it may seem that I am biased now, I still check everything.
