I suspect that the author of this article was never an enlisted man in US military or naval service. Had he been that, I doubt whether he would have given much credence to Major Cross’ assertions. And also, to the disavowal of Private Beachamp’s assertions of his fellow enlisted men and women. One learns quickly enough in the military to lie and deceive, so as not to contradict those in the ruling officer class.
