A good friend of my family used to get drunk and threaten people with weapons. He was truly out of control. Then he sobered up and now delivers groceries in secret (he buys them himself) to families in need. But…..he still tells tales of the old days. Am I condemned because of my long association with him or am I ok because his violent activities were a-political? Is he proud of who he was then or can he not help bragging just a little about his trial through fire?
I feel I’m better for having known him as I understand people like him better. I sure as hell don’t agree with him, but he is a kind and generous person.

I see the republican party forming a popular image of what an American is supposed to act like, look like, think like and whom to associate with. There is no room for deviation or differentiation only assimilation. And that is waaay scarier than the occasional wacko.
