I think an important thing to remember here is that we are not merely talking about “overweight” children, we are talking about children who suffer from “extreme obesity”. These are two very different qualifying terms. Genetics, a poor diet, child rebellion, lack of exercise, and even medication can cause a child to become overweight. But extreme obesity is whenever a child medical issues have become so severe, it is now a death sentence for them. Regardless of what people want to realize, the honest truth is that this IS child abuse. A child is dependent on their parents for the first years of life and whatever they are taught becomes learned behavior. Parents are found guilty of child abuse when the child is malnourished and their life is being threatened, so how is extreme obesity threatening a child’s life any different? We must remember that children are dependent on their parents to lead them in the right direction for their well-being and looking to their best interests.
