For not firmly supporting the Shah is in time of need? Wow. Could it be that our previous support of the Shah is really the root of our problem?

Leeden, as always, is wildly exaggerating. The man is a crackpot and a thug, and can only be described as an enemy of freedom, all of his self-righteous fulminations notwithstanding.

Let’s get something perfectly straight here: the US has been FUCKING with Iran for decades. It is the US that has initiated the aggression and kept it going. The US has Iran absolutely surrounded with military forces. The US has invaded and continues to occupy two countries on Iran’s borders, with one of those invasions being justified on what can only be called a fraudulent basis. Following that invasion, the US’s occupation of Iraq has been so catastrophic that it goes beyond mere incompetence: Iraq’s society and infrastructure have been savagely damaged.

Nor has the US succeeded in bringing democracy to Iraq, as promised. Of course, it was the US that overthrew Iranian democracy.

If Iran did something like invade Mexico and Canada after overthrowing the US government, Americans might have some grounds in claiming that Iran is a clear and present danger. In the US-Iran relationship, that kind of belligerence has ony been practiced by the US.
