“131. MIKE THE AMERICAN:
Palin’s Alaskan ‘Windfall Profits Tax’ is not only a ‘re-distribution of wealth’
(or ’spreading the wealth around’ for all you Joe six-pack plumbers),
it is textbook socialism. In fact, the Alaskan system of Government and
it’s financial sources (85% derived from Oil Companies) have more in
common with the former USSR than the USA.”
Something I learned during a recent vacation on Alaska…
The state of Alaska owns all the oil extracted from the state, including off-shore. The oil companies pay the state for the oil they extract and that money is placed in a fund that gest distributed to all legal citizens of Alaska from date of birth to date of death in the form of a yearly check. On average, every Alaskan citizen receives apx $1000 to $1600 per year in oil revenue and do not pay state income tax.
This is NOT a socialist redistribution of wealth. This is citizens receiving money for the selling of their (mutual) property, otherwise known as ‘capitalism.’ (Can you say “Capitalism,” kiddies?)
