Colin Powell was what we call a Pentagon general. He served his country honorably and then got caught up in the intrigue and politics of washington, and never left. Bush I promoted him because he was at the time politically desirable. His battles with some of the field generals were pretty telling.
He lost all credibility as SecState when he hung Judith Miller and Libby out to dry. That is the lowest form of politics. No one deserves prison for crimes they did not commit. He will be judged much more harshly by history.
