Anyone who believes that the President is the primary force behind the economy, really doesn’t know enough to join the conversation.
The economy, before the Fannie/Freddie debacle, was not even remotely an issue. (albeit, the deficit had grown). Market forces and the legislators have a much greater impact on the economy than does the Executive branch of government.
Budgets are not passed without approval or amendment by Congress. One man does not spend our money, nor choose where to spend it. He also doesn’t make our energy decisions, raise the price of gasoline, hijack airplanes and drive them into our buildings. He responds to those things in an interactive way with our representatives…they project and respond to things happening around them.
NO economist worth an ounce of credibility gives substantial credit or blame for much of the economic status at any given moment in time to the President.
