Rightly or wrongly Powells endorsement of Obama will be seen purely as identity politics.
It was the same with Oprah Winfrey – for so long she played up to the fact that she was all for women and womens rights and empowerment of women blah, blah, blah, but as soon as the race for the Democratic nomination distilled down to Obama and Clinton she sided with the black guy over the women because racial identity clearly was more important than gender to her.
It might not be true of Powell but with 95% of the black vote deemed to be in the bag for Obama its hard to really think any differently.
On that basis his endorsement of Obamais pretty meaningless….except to those who are going to vote for him anyway.
