The dirty rotten secret about the liberals policies which have prevented us from utilized our own energy policies is this: when you have affordable personal transportation you can, in effect, vote with your feet. When the great court-mandated experiment of school busing was tried a great number of the guinea pigs fled to the suburbs, which enraged the social engineers to no end. They have not forgotten this. “Public transportation” goes wherever those in power decides it can go. That’s why the liberals love it so much, and that’s why they would like to have the price of gasoline go through the roof.
