The primary system is more badly broken than that. Whey do a few states get such prominence? Why are other states effectively disenfranchized by having later primaries? Why do caucuses matter at all, since they don’t even represent effectively the states that they’re in? Why have primaries at all, when the campaign finance laws have virtually taken us back to the days of selecting candidates in smoke-filled rooms?
I’d settle for a national primary. One of the long-standing problems with primaries is that they tend to select candidates are too fringy to succeed in a national election. It would provide better representation for voters in all states.
I’d be even happier with campaign finance reform that gives complete and immediate transparency, but that’s a wish I’m not likely to receive.
