The problem is that the highly ideological left wing of the Democratic party is now in the saddle. They never have been before, despite the GOP’s many cries of wolf to the contrary. This bunch enthusiastically embrace the old meliorist notion that you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs. It’s permissible to destroy a real little guy, or even many, in order to help THE little guy, theoretical and abstracted though he may be. They have in mind a very large omelet and Joe the Plumber is only one egg.
“Lunch bucket” Biden’s snide comment the day after the debate (“I don’t know too many plumbers in my neighborhood who make $250K a year.”) says worlds. The left has never been fond of the lumpen proletariat. They ask too many embarrassing questions and are dealt with accordingly.
