Hi SC&A, I’m glad you liked it.

“Is the return of the Sudanese diaspora fueled by economics or nationalism?”

1- Economics and more economics.

2- A longing to be with relatives again.

3- Nationalism.

“Are they contributing to the betterment of the nation?”

Yes, they are.

“Will they stay?”

By how things are going, yes. More continue to go back. I know many who did and others who plan to.

“How will the Bashir regime take to long term modernization? Will they co opt the efforts or will they hit back when they think things have gone too far?”

Aha, now those are the real big question marks. Even us Sudanese are anxiously waiting. For now, what we’re anticipating is:

1- Elections.

2- Southerners voting for separation.

We are a nation in waiting. Things could get very ugly at a short notice. It’s hard to tell what will happen, especially with China having so many interests in the country now.

Grrrr… it’s too much of a headache thinking about it!
