Your argument does not hold water. John McCain is solely responsible for Joe’s current misery. To thrust someone into the spotlight without asking permission and without vetting him to make sure he will withstand the inevitable scrutiny was self-serving at best, and decidedly cruel.
When one campaigner introduces an example to illustrate his or her point, the other side (and the media) has every right, and a responsibility, to investigate that example for validity. It’s the only way the electorate can be protected from being duped into voting for someone they don’t really know.
I feel sorry for Joe the plumber being victimized by John McCain. But until Joe pays his taxes in full, like I do, that’s where my sympathy stops. It turns out that I’m the one paying for the roads Joe is driving to and from his unlicensed plumbing work every day, and that makes me pretty angry.
Personally, I have no respect for tax dodges. And neither should John McCain. Who does he think is going to pay for his welfare-for-the-rich programs?
