The McCain campaign has attempted to make Joe the Plumber an example of how Obama’s tax policies would end up stifling and suffocating the American Dream. In point of fact, the American Dream has been dead for the last eight years. Indeed, the policies of the Republican Party, i.e., trickle-down economics and compassionate conservativism, have already destroyed the American Dream for millions of Americans. Simply because the media and the Democratic Party have the audacity to point out that “Joe the Plumber” is a canard is not the fault of the Democratic Party, but merely the glaring spotlight revealing the warts on another one of the McCain campaign’s attempts to distract us from the truth. Government has grown 54% in the last 8 years, our federal deficit is approaching $1 trillion dollars, our national debt is at $10 trillion, and the numbers of Americans in poverty has grown almost 25% from just over 30m in 2000 to 37.3 million in 2007. Joe the Plumber should not be upset with Obama’s tax policies, but with Republican policies that are barely keeping Joe the Plumber’s head above all that water sprung from the leaky toilet that has been Republican governance.
