Armstrong makes an excellent point about not treating “society” as some sort of super-entity. The reification of society as somehow greater than the individuals that compose it has been the source of numerous bad ideas in politics and economics — not just in health care.
If America is to survive, we need to rediscover the primacy of the *individual* as the proper unit of political thinking. Fortunately, more and more Americans are starting to get it.
