I find it interesting that someone wrote that 95% of “afro-Americans” are voting for Obama so that makes them racist. The fact is 95% of African-Americans voted for Clinton–how does the race factor play into that?

I am white and go to Homestead High school in Fort Wayne, Indiana where there are 10% minorities and 90% white students. Last year we had to do a project where we had to trace the family history of our best friends. I found out that my best friend (who also is white) is the decendant of slave owners and had family directly involved with the Jim Crow events of the south. There is a picture that was in her great grandmothers house of two of her great uncles standing under a tree with two black men hanging from it.

If the so-called guilty by association rule applies that links Barack Obama to Ayers, does that same rule apply to all of the white people–myself included that have ties to white supremist and hate mongers that turned hoses on people of color in the 60′s… If everyone is guilty by association am I racist because my grandfather calls black people the N-word and refers to Jews in a very deragatory way?
I have friends of all colors (African-American, Hispanic, Asian, etc). I find it hard to believe that Barack Obama is being judged by an association with Ayers who committed that act when Barack Obama was eight years old. Obama had nothing to do with Ayers act of terrorism, absolutely nothing to do with it.
It seems that if Obama’s judgement is questionable for associating with Ayers, then the judgement of the university president, the entire faculty, and all of the students and parents should be questioned who associate with Ayers on a daily basis. He is a professor of education in Illinois. Everyone who associates with him should have their patroitism questioned, IF Barack Obama’s judgement is questioned.

I find it interesting when I hear my grandparents talking about politics these days, I hear the word “Ni**er” so much I am ashamed.
It makes me think that they are not afraid that Obama isn’t qualified, or he is going to redistribute their wealth (they actually make a lot less than 250,000 a year so they will benefit from his tax breaks) the only thing I have heard them say really is that they never thought they would live to see the day that a “N……) would be running for president)…

There are probably more people who feel the same way but just aren’t as honest about it as my grandparents. I am ashamed when I hear them speaking about it with their friends, just as I am ashamed when I read some of the comments written here.

I am ashamed that my fellow Americans would think it is a security risk because Obama went to school part of the time in another country.

The reality is Americans are lagging behind almost every other industrialized nation in education. We are considered dumb, and we have the test scores to prove it.
Most Americans do not speak a foriegn language–unlike most Europeans and Asians–even students from Africa speak 3 and 4 languages.

We are afraid because Barack Obama was forunate to see another part of the world, be around people who didn’t look like him, and learn and be fully emersed in another culture. Why is that so bad?

I think people should vote for whomever they choose but when I hear some of the ignorant reasons to not vote for a candidate (Republican or Democrat) I am ashamed.

It is strange that people throw around the comment about food stamps not realizing that there are more white people receiving welfare and foodstamps than minorities. Instead of slinging hate and stereotypes, get real facts. Yes, I was surprised to find this out. I was surprised because everything I had heard people say that minorites–especially black people are the ones receiving welfare, but it turns out that it is white people(on a national leve) who receive more government assistance.

Knowledge and information is free. Check the government websites and look at the statistics. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon of stereotypes pick up a book and read. Instead of using the internet to spew hate, research government statistics. You may be surprised at what you find…and before you determine that the governmenet websites are lying and it is some conspiracy to elect Barack Obama look not only at present day, but go back 60,70 years. White people have always received more government assistance. Period.

Another note about foodstamps–my mother and father work full time. My father is a supervisor at General Motors, and was recently laid off. My mother is a registered nurse. Both of my parents have college degrees, and are hardworking, patriotic Americans.
For some to suggest that people are lazy and want government hand-outs is just not the case.
Do you suggest that people who lose everything in a natural disaster just want government hand-outs? Nobody plans to lose their jobs and not be able to provide for their families.
I think instead of criticizing people you should be thankful that you have not been laid off, or had to lay off employees because of the economic downturn.

The guy who only talks about going to WalMart and purchasing a gun–I would be ashamed to be your child. Your thinking shows how small minded and excuse me for saying “ignorant” you are.
From all of the atrocities minorites have suffered at the hands of white people in this country where racism was systematic and law–I am surprised more of them aren’t packing and afraid of us. People seem only to think about slavery and forget about the Jim Crow Laws of the South. They seem to forget that the civil rights movement was not that long ago.
I have an African- American calculus teacher whose mother was born in 1956. Had her mother lived in the south instead of California, she would have had to give up her seat to many of my other white teachers. That is how real it is. People are afraid to admit that it was not that long ago…and are also afraid to deal with the fact that they may have some residual feelings of superiority from that very fact–that black people in America not too long ago, had no rights.
How dare this man run for the President of the United States–who does he think he is?
I am not saying that is how all people feel, but that is definitely how my grandparents feel.

I will not be old enough to vote on November 4th, but if I were I would vote for Barack Obama. I wouldn’t vote because I have some sense of guilt because my grandparents are racist–yes I said it. I wouldn’t vote for him because I have a sense of guilt for being white and all that my ancestors did, or may have done to blacks in America. I wouldn’t vote for him because it is the “cool” thing to do.
I would vote for him because I think he is qualified, intelligent, compassionate, and I feel he is the best man for the job–period.
