Obama Supporter Assaults Female McCain Volunteer in New York
Sadly, this seems to be par for the course for a major LOUD faction of Obama supporters. These are the same people (check out Daily Kos if you want to see them in their natural element) that have viciously and without any sense of human decency gone after a private citizen that did nothing more than ask Obama a question. They posted this man’s phone number, address, liens, speeding ticket record and other private information on-line. They’ve attacked him as a phony because Joe is his middle rather than first name, he shares the last name of a guy that’s associated with Charles Keating, and he doesn’t have plumbers license. Biden has gone as far as to mock this private citizen on national television. Personally, I find this BEYOND loathsome. It’s very similar to the hateful smear campaign they perpetrated against Govenor Palin, but at least in that case the victim was someone that CHOSE to be a public figure. Not true with Joe the Plumber. They don’t care.
Why would they do this? From what I can gather reading their posts they are certain Joe is some sort of McCain plant. It doesn’t matter to them that Senator Obama approached HIM, not the other way around. The mere fact that Senator Obama’s encounter with this man led to Senator Obama revealing his warmed over socialist leanings was enough for them to target the man as a fraud and as such, not worthy of human respect and decency.
It’s become clear throughout this presidential campaign that this particular group of Obama supporters sees the Presidential campaign as a war between good and evil. Through the primaries versus Hillary Clinton and her supporters and now during the general election versus McCain/Palin and their supporters, these Obama supporters have revealed a consistent pattern of cruelty, viciousness, hypocrisy and intolerance.
There are two things I find truly disturbing about these people:
(1) They depersonalize their opponents: Clinton, Palin, McCain and all their supporters clearly are not human to this particular group of Obama supporters. This depersonalization of the opposition is very similar to what Nazis and violent racists do. It gives them license to do things to the “enemy” that they might never do in their everyday life like humiliate a teenage girl, or damage the livelihood and reputation of a private citizen.
(2) They are utterly incapable of seeing their own faults and failures with respect to this campaign.
They think only “Rethuglicans” are capable of vicious lies, cruelty and smear campaigns. They think only “Rethuglicans” are capable of intolerance. Only “Rethuglicans” are capable of ends justify the means type behavior. Everything THEY do is justified as FIGHTING BACK and stopping evil, racist “Rethuglicans” from destroying life as we know it.
