Cal Indie: I thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate your thoughtful and measured response. It touches my heart that you inspire young people. I left working in the active political process in the eighties. I now serve as youth Pastor at Eden Place Bible Fellowship in a racially mixed neighborhood in Chicago. Along with other Black evengelicals, I could not bring myself to vote for Al Gore. I punched for George Bush. I see nothing in John McCain to suggest he is a man of faith. I’ve watched clips of Sarah Palin’s rallies with hateful words [such as I haven't heard since the 60s] pouring from the crowd. What McCain repudiated she seemed to revel in. She said nothing. I know Jesus. Jesus is my friend. I don’t believe Mrs. Palin was following him. I’ve met the now retired Reverend Wright. I have visited his church. If you had heard one of his fiery sermons on self-help and determination, when he is exhorted his congregation to work hard, you’d want to recruit him for the GOP. We have a bigger sample of his work with which to evaluate him in Chicago. Finally, I was born in 1956. I saw Dr. King speak in person at Evanston IL. I remember the craziness of those times. I saw tanks rolling down the streets in my town. I saw soldiers with machine guns. I remember the weather underground. Maybe Barak Obama was sharp enough at eight years old to remember also, but I doubt he piloted a getaway bicycle for Bill Ayers. My congressman Bobby Rush is a former Black Panther from those times, who once defeated a challenge by Barak Obama for his seat. Life goes on and people grow. Bill Ayers is not a young militant Vietnam antiwar protester he’s a college professor at the University of Chicago. There is no statute of limitations on murder. If he killed someone, the U.S. attorney could charge him today. He was not found guilty. All charges against him were dropped by the Nixon administration. Were you even alive in the sixties. By the way I also remember the Savings and Loan Scandal. It was the FannieMae of its day. I must confess, I only recently learned of John Mccains involvement, his intimate friendship and working relationship with Charles Keating. All this when Keating was committing crimes for which he was found guilty and imprisoned. McCain was charged with no crime but was reprimanded for poor judgement. What I do remember from that time is ordinary innocent people losing their savings.
So we have two candidates, neither perfect. On the basis of guilt be association let’s call it a wash. On the Basis of the Vice Presidential running mate of the 72 year old cancer survivor :John McCain, I vote for Obama. Why John McCain didn’t pick one of the many more capable women in the GOP to lure some of Clinton’s support, I’ll never know. He used poor judgement Even Secretary Rice is brilliant. We better pray for whoever gets elected!
