What you deem “a promised land with no former claims” would be coveted by Turkish Muslims who would think it a sin to forfeit land (particularly to Jews) conquered and held for centuries in “dar-al-Islam”. It’s unlikely that Israelis could find any piece of land with “no former claims” outside of Antarctica, or perhaps Pluto. Moreover, it seems highly unlikely that Jews would just pack up and live in territory with no historical Jewish connection or meaning. Jews in Israel don’t see themselves as powerless pawns on someone’s chessboard. The very idea that it’s the Jews who would have to relocate–AGAIN!–would insult them tremendously. It would feel like yet another expulsion after a history rife with them, with the ironic twist that, this time around, they’d be expelled INTO Europe!

The way things are going, it’s more likely that the rash fool Erdogan will start trouble with Israel, ultimately leading to a highly INVOLUNTARY relinquishing of Turkish territory, some of it to a future Kurdistan. If Egypt’s military junta joins the adventure, Israel might find itself some new territory–not in Constantinople, but in the Sinai.

Sad to say, but it’s generally WAR that results in major redrawings of the map, rather than well-intentioned, ambitious peacetime gestures.
