Facts are always elusive to the Left.
Next time you run into Ted Daschle, ask him what years he was the majority leader of the Senate. Also ask him, when he was minority leader of the Senate, if he had fewer than 40 Democrat Senators. The Dems could have easily blocked any law just by filibustering it. You, if you can calm yourself, may have heard about the filibusters the Democrats put on regarding judicial appointments? Going back to the Clinton era, you may recall it was the Dole Republicans that blocked Hillary-care in the Senate by filibustering the bill. Dole will tell you he was minority leader of the Senate at the time.
We can address the other items when we get past how the Congress works. And it’s ok to be ignorant – that can be corrected through studies. Maybe we can take a quiz, which President:
1. Cut taxes by a significant amount
2. Invaded a country we were not at war with at the time
3. Supported a strong defense
4. Supported new social programs?
Answer: Kennedy. Also Bush. Technically, we were at war with Iraq since there was only only an armistice in effect. To save you the trouble of looking it up, an armistice is a temporary stop in fighting by mutual consent. But why quibble. Kennedy failed in just about all of his social programs but Bush that No Child thing as well as the huge expansion in welfare (that drug law for seniors). I’ve lived during every President from Eisenhower but don’t trust me, go read some history.
We can examine the growth of socialism in Democracies sometime when you have more study time.
Since this batch of Dems is further left than even the EU, it is entirely reasonable that, if Obama wins, it won’t make much difference about the Senate rule on filibuster. They’re entirely capable of just changing the rules and doing many of the same type of programs FDR tried in the 1930′s for much the same reason. There was a conservative court in most of FDR’s terms but not today. If you think the court is right wing today, go visit Powerline.com and ask the three attorneys there.
Remember, no need to get excited.
