“I plan to leave politics at the door and watch a master cinematographer at work.”
I can’t think of a masterwork by Stone since Wall Street (even if the Michael Douglas character was a caricature).
“No, Republicans have had their shot. They have wrecked American influence abroad and wrecked the American dream of the middle class at home. It’s time for a change.”
When it comes to “the American dream of the middle class”, what makes you think a vote for the Democrats would give you positive change? Bush didn’t deviate from the post-New Deal entitlement mentality; on the contrary, he added a Part D to Medicare and threw money at education. What makes you think a Democrat doing more of the same would represent positive change?
As frustrated as I am with some of the mistakes and inarticulateness of Republicans, I’m not willing to cut off my nose to spite my face. A President Obama backed by Dem-controlled House and a filibuster-proof Dem majority in the Senate could make some permanent changes to this country. For all the talk of the Reagan Revolution, after all, FDR’s New Deal edifice survived it. Fully socialized medicine is a real possibility if Democrats run the table in November, and the consequences of that would be harmful for medical innovation and could hamstring industries in which we currently lead the world.
