Mr. Spencer zeros in on the great weakness of the piece by Mr. Derbyshire. He seems to look on this existential conflict with Islam, which we will either win or perish in, from a distance and without a “rooting” interest. As a “pagan,” he says that the claims of Christianity require “magical” thinking, just as those of Islam, and both are unbelievable to the irreligous. If he really thinks that Christianity is as dangerous to him, as a free thinker, as the doctrines of Islam, he is ill- informed about the threat. Even if it is worse than “radical dentistry,” he should read the Qur’an carefully or, less painfully, at least read Lawrence Wright’s “The Looming Tower” to understand what we are up against. As long as we continue to get the party line of the “religion of peace” and “hijacked by a small band of extremists,” we will continue to be unable to conceptualize the threat. I personally think that we will not face facts until the SECOND American city goes up in a murhroom cloud. I have gotten to the despairing point of just hoping that the the strike — which I fear in inevitable while the irreligous attack Christianity, not Islam — will not be disabling. Saudi Arabia reportedly receives an ADDITIONAL $500 million PER DAY because of the recent increase in crude oil prices. The Saudi royal famility has nore than 6,000 princes, all receiving a government stipend. It only takes one who decides to spend his money on behalf of Islam and give it to Al Queda. Would you bet that a nuke will never be available for the right price?
