If this was a Frank Capra movie, McCain would appear on national TV to declare that somehow he was seduced by the lowest elements of the Republican Party and had become the kind of politician he always despised. He would also say that his administration should be about reaching across the aisle and dealing with the crises at home and abroad. He would say that his choices, both in policy and his VP choice were dictated to him by people with money and from now on he will never listen to them again.

He would conclude by saying he did not deserve to be President. The American people would be so overwhelmed by his straight talk and honesty that they would elect McCain in a landslide.

But this isn’t a Frank Capra movie.
