Mud Money: McCain’s Media Missteps

The media has always had a bias. But that bias is inherent to the medium and driven by the qualities of the candidates themselves. JFK was considerably less “experienced” than Richard Nixon, but the television audiences loved him. His sense of humor and sharp intellect trumped Nixon’s rumpled, neurotic mantle of experience. You can’t blame the media for a candidate’s inability to inspire voters. In this election, after 8 years of enduring the follies of a substandard intellect, the country wants somebody with brains who can deal with complex issues we’re facing. McCain’s earnest recitations of his ‘talking points’ and over-use of meaningless terms like “maverick”, make him sound like a politician from a bygone era, when voters were less cynical and more gullible. Repeating “I can do it”, or “I know how to do that” over and over again just sounds stupid in this day and age. So, when that footage runs on television or YouTube, the pundits and anchors don’t have to say a word. The bias is self-generated by the candidate himself.
